Whichever style of eating we choose, we need to choose our foods with care so we obtain all the nutrients we need whilst enjoying the experience of our diverse food supply. It is not surprising that each food has a unique group of nutrients and often something special to offer.

- Fish is an excellent source of omega 3 fats.

Nutrition Myths
Myth
Low-fat milk has less calcium than full-fat milk.
Fact
Toned and double tonned milk actually have more calcium, because the calcium is in the watery part, not the creamy part.
Myth
Vegetarians can't build muscle.
Fact
Vegetarians can be as muscular as meat eaters by getting their protein from vegetable sources such as cheese, nuts, pulses and grains when mutually supplemented in diet.
Myth: Exercising on an empty stomach burns more fat.
Fact: exercise is burning fat as well as carbohydrate stores from food you've recently eaten. So if you skip your pre-workout meal or snack, you won't have carb stores to burn. But that doesn't mean you'll burn all fat (a physiological impossibility). Instead, your body starts to burn its own muscle for fuel. Exercising on empty means you'll probably be too tired to go all out, which translates into burning fewer calories .Ideally, you should have a meal three or four hours before a workout, or a snack one to two hours before exercising.
Myth
You always gain weight when you stop smoking.
Fact
Some people gain weight when they stop smoking, some lose weight and some stay the same.
While nicotine does increase the body's metabolism, its effect is small. It's far healthier to be an overweight non-smoker than not bother giving up because you think you'll put on weight.
Tips for healthy living-
- Eat to lead a healthy life.
- In a calorie compromised diet, compromise on quantity but judiciously supplement your diet, so that quality is not compromised.
- Do not encourage juice in a reducing diet, they are calorie dense and low in fibre. Consume whole fruit instead.
