An essential aspect of physiotherapy treatment is rehabilitation, which may be required in order to re-educate a person to enable them to return to their normal life be at work or sports.
Following injury and periods of immobilization, patients may be affected by muscle weakness and loss of function.
Physiotherapy uses various techniques to rehabilitate and re-educate patients, such as:
- Manipulation and mobilization
- Teaching personalized exercise programmes
- Proprioceptive Neuromuscular facilitation
- Neuro developmental technique
- Progressive resisted exercise
- Motor relearning programme
PAIN
Physiotherapy aims not only to treat pain and other symptoms, but also to help identify the causes and provide self-management strategies.
We render pain relief treatment, exercise programme and ergonomic advice for Repetitive Stress Injuries.
Modalities in physiotherapy used in relieving pain:
- Interferential therapy unit provides a unique option to choose different wave forms and current types in treating acute and sub-acute pain condtions.
- Short wave diathermy, a deep heat modality used to treat chronic conditions helps in relieving pain and spasm.
- Ultra sound therapy provides pain relief by reducing the inflammation and helps in tissue repair. It can be used in bursitis, tendonitis, synovitis, old scar tissues etc.
- Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator helps in reducing radiating pain and muscle spasm in acute conditions.
- Paraffin wax in sub acute traumatic and inflammatory conditions is especially useful in R.A. Also wax can be used after fractures and arthritis on proximal joints as the wax envelopes all the contours of a joint.
- Traction unit is used in spinal nerve root impingement, degenerative disc diseases and in muscle spasm of cervical and lumbar region.
Exercise form an essentials part for strengthening and maintaining range of motion in a joint which keep muscles and joints healthy.
Physiotherapy and rehabilitation
Q1. |
Do I need a doctor's referral for physiotherapy treatment? |
A. |
No, however we do recommend that you contact your physician/surgeon as you may require a medical referral (referral by a medical practitioner) to authorise re-imbursement of treatment charges. |
Q2. |
What is electrotherapy? |
A. |
Electrotherapy is the use of electricity in order to produce different types of energy waves. These waves are then used to effect tissues by reducing swelling, pain and muscle spasm and by strengthening muscles. This results in the promotion of healing. |
Q3. |
How quickly will I be seen for my first appointment? |
A. |
We will always endeavour to offer you an appointment on the same day or within 24 hours. |
