Micro & Hand Surgery
Microsurgery is a sub specialty performed with the aid of a microscope on structures that are barely visible to the naked eye. This sub specialty mainly deals with " Replantations" (reattaching severed parts of the limb). For a successful Replantation, preservation of the amputated part is important. The amputated part should be preserved DRY in a DRY polythylene bag. This bag should be immersed in a mixture of ice and cold water. By using microsurgery, post traumatic or post cancer excision defect can be reconstructed using tissues from distant site. The orthomicrosurgeries performed are nerve repair, vascular repair, tubal recanalisation, lympho-venous anastamosis for lympha brachial plexus repair.
Commonly done hand caps are cut tendon repair, hand bone fracture, dislocation correction, tendion transfers for nerve palsies, carpal tunnel release. Deputyren’s contracture release etc., small joint replacement i.e. PIP, MCPS replacement for rhumatoid trauma affected joints Head and Neck reconstruction. Post trauma, post cancer excision defects are re-constructed in any part of the body by traditional flap surgeries or by microsurgery.
