Apollo Hospitals, Chennai is an undisputed leader in
Cardiology and Cardiovascular surgery in India, with

In the past two decades that followed, nearly 30,000
heart operations have been performed at Chennai and
of these, nearly 22,000 have been coronary bypass
surgeries. Until about 6 years ago these operations
were being done by conventional techniques involving
the use of the heart lung machine. At the present
time nearly 90% of coronary bypass operations are
being done using the “beating heart” technique. This
has resulted in a very significant reduction in
post-operative complications and a reduction in
hospital mortality to around 0.6%. The short term
results have been just as good. The operation
however has become more demanding but the result for
the patient has greatly improved. Cardiologists at
Apollo have also pioneered Balloon angioplasty
procedures and have positioned themselves at the
forefront of percutaneous interventions. Close
co-operation between the surgeons and the
cardiologists have ensured that patients get
individualized and appropriate treatment. Apollo has
